There have been uncertainties with Camp Sierra, the forest service, the county of Fresno, and our own lives. As you know, the global pandemic and the Creek Fire both have had and will have a dramatic impact on our beloved annual get together.
We are asking any camper over 12 years old who will not be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 at camp (or their sponsor) to call Heather and discuss this. Unvaccinated campers will be required to wear a mask except when eating or in your own room, and may be excluded from certain activities during the week. Campers under age 12 are also required to mask. The rules for unvaccinated campers will apply as well to campers lacking proof of vaccination. These are requirements of the California Department of Public Health.
Thanks to insurance coverage, we have received some funding to replace our lost equipment and supplies. Please understand, however, that our normal program will be incomplete this year. All of the camp facilities and meal service will be there, though we will be a smaller group, and we will not have access to all of the lodging that we usually do. Activities outside of Camp Sierra, because of fire damage, will be limited.
BUT, there will be folk dancing, arts and crafts, tie-dye, and an auction to raise funds for the necessary repairs to Camp Sierra. Shaver Lake was spared, too. Camp will be what we all make it with the limited resources at hand, as we build toward a complete camp experience in 2022 and beyond.
