Fred
was an amazing, free-spirited, cooperative soul--and many
campers miss him dearly. At camp, and in the off season,
we could always count on Fred to have a new scheme for promoting
co-ops, getting more people involved, and brainstorming
new ways to generate funds for the movement. He was the
visionary and prime organizer of two co-op cabins at the
Camp Sierra site: Toad House and Mousse House. And Fred
would always show up for--and often host--any discussions
on the history and future of cooperatives, including Co-op
Camp's. He conceived and bankrolled the Convers Certificates
program that makes camp more affordable for a lot of familes.
We held a memorial for Fred during the first week of camp
2004, and will be dedicating an outdoor game table in his
honor at camp in 2005. Feel free to honor Fred's memory
by contributing to an inspiring, cooperative cause.
